Child Support and Social Security Question

Illinois, have a friend who's only source of income is social security disability. He is not divorce, but has continual seperations and each time she leaves she files for child support, he pays... but I was wanting to know if social security would / should be exempt from child support? Since it is taking so much that it is leaving him short not to be able to pay his living expenses.
