Do you need to have 50% custody in order to receive child support?

The amount one receives or pays in support depends on several key factors like, child(ren)’s state of residency, income of each parent and percentage of time the kids spend with each parent. In cases of 50/50 split custody, the courts usually run guidelines twice. Once with one parent having primary custody and once with the other have primary custody. The difference between these 2 support amounts is then awarded to the parent with the lower income.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
In some states the non primary can receive child support, but it some states support is an award to the primary (or 50/50 where both are primary). Almost every state has a shared custody worksheet now where one form can be used with number of overnights.
