Unless I misunderstand the way that Ebay works, Ebay is not the employer.

Ebay is simply a 3rd party that the ex is selling products/merchandise through. Sort of like a big yard sale on line.

I have sold items on ebay - granted, I didn't sell but one or two things, so maybe it is different for people who sell in bulk, but I never received anything like an earning statement or 10-99 for tax purposes from them.

Just a thought......if you know what user id that the ex's is using to sale items......couldn't you research the ex's sales under that id. It should show what was sold and what price it sold at.

I've "dumped" a few items on EBay. Mostly they were buying mistakes that were new items I didn't have time to return, or couldn't return. And on those, I just broke even - got my money back out - or almost did. You know, the sheets on sale that I thought were the correct "blue-green", but were TOO blue or TOO green, or a wood blind on a clearance table that I was SURE was right for the bathroom, but was an inch too narrow. Or a formal dress I bought my kiddo for some upcoming special occasssion, only to have her outgrow before the occassion happened.

One can't know what, if any "profit" a person selling on Ebay generates unless they know what the cost of the item's sold may be. Me, when I sell stuff, I'm just trying to get back what I paid. If I get more, fine

Very true. How do you propose showing what her profit actually is? E-bay fees, papal fees, bubble wrap, boxes, peanuts are NOT free nor is the gas and her time to drop off the items off at a shipper, cleaning the item, wrapping it? Where did it come from? Her time spent at auction along with related expenses for attending the auction such as admission, buyer’s premium, time, gas, lunch? Shoot.. there are many other expenses it would take too long to list. Plus e-bay isn’t going to give you any information on her account. Let it go. There are millions of e-bay sellers but only a handful actually make a full living off it. Just check the e-bay sellers board.

No she has an e-bay store. She has sold some expensive stuff. She just sold a $300 barbie doll the other day and has another one for sale. She has another one for sale for 200. THe sell a lot of ammunition brass witch is free from her husbands work. They sell those for about 20 dollars a pop. I looked over some of her history but it only keeps the prices stored for 90 days.

If she is running an Ebay shop, it's a little different.

BUT.....She would be considered a business owner. Ebay is still not her employer.

To go after her would be like going after a self employed person. You could send the verification forms to her under the "company name" that she has established or send them directly to her.

Specifically request documentation for the ebay store that she is operating.

I just read an article on the ebay store, and they offer an accounting assistant - free of charge - to the people that are running the stores. It works off of quick books and gives a bottom line of the stores profits. They also have a tracking tool to show the past history of the account from the time it was first opened.

Personally, I would request the documentation (thru Court) for the on-line store.

BUT**************..and this will be were she probably gets you**************.....the on line store would have to be in her name. If she has it set up under her latest partners name, there is nothing you can do for it.

Well mainly to show a history af lying. I am not sure what name the business is under but if you read her responses to her buyers it has to be her not her husband.

And why do you care if she is lying?

Because she has claimed that she has no income... hence why I should have to pay more support. I am basically taking her to court to try to have the custody turned over to me due to a lot of her lies and this would just add more than one thing..... it isn't that important I was just curious.

If a lying parent lost custody of his child, then no parent would have custody, since all people lie.

LOL .... true... but when you are lying to the children about the other parent to make yourself look better.... that's where it becomes a problem. There is a lot to my case, this was just a question that I had.

You know what - she can very easily close that e-bay store before you have a chance to do anything !!!!!!!!!
Then, she could oepn up another one, and you'd never know. Plus, as another poster wrote - there are no w-2 forms from e-bay - -I know I sell..... I don't charge tax because I am not a business and I don't claim is at income - it's a few extra bucks on stuff we don't use anymoree - clothes my son has outgrown, etc**************..... I don't know anyone who makes a living off of selling on e-bay!!! Most people buy lots/bulk and resell - but still, you're not making a ton. Anyone who is/does - GOOD FOR YOU!! I make enough to buy some new stuff, that is about it

Big deal, she is lying about making a few bucks - you still have a financial responsibilty to pay child support for your kids- - is that your beef??
