We Are Living In California. We Have A Court Order To Pay Child Support Which We Have Been Paying For Years. We Do Not Owe Back Pay. How Do We Make Sure The Payments Stop On The 18th Birthday Of The Child? He Will Be 18 On June 13,2008. There Is No Ending Date On The Court Order. Do We Need To Go Back To Court To Have This Done? Or Do We Just Fill Out Paperwork For This? Also, Once He Turns 18 In California We Are Not Financially Responsible For Him....correct? We Are Not Obligated To Pay For His College Etc.? There Is No Agreements Or Contracts Made.

As long as he graduates when he is 18, then simply stop the support. If the child has not graduated when he turns 18, he must continue his support untill he does graduate.

19 is the cut off for support if the child has not graduated.

But if the CS is being garnished, he need to contact the collecting agency to stop the garnishment.

WE don't do anything. The legal parent does. If it is being garnished contact the CS agency and notify them. That is of course, that the CO says that the CS stops when the kid turns 18, sometimes it is until the child graduates High School, which a lot of kids do AFTER they turn 18.

Poster never mentioned if it was garnished, so I am going off of what she/he posted.
