What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I am in California and my Ex has an attorney I do not. I filed for relief of my child support obligations and my Ex just filed a Responsive Declaration to Show Cause. My Question: Can I respond to my ex's response? If so, how many days do I have to make my response, the trial is Jan 4th '11..

Thanks to anyone who can answer.
