What is the name of your state? Mass.
This past week, Mass. child support took all the money out of my checking account. I have a joint account with my wife. Without any notice, they took every penny out of the account. My rent check bounced, electric, cable etc. Can they actually do this. What about the money my wife put in there?

If you are behind in CS, why in heaven's name would you allow your wife to put her funds at risk in an account with your name on it? She should have her own account for her money. Yes, any account that has your name is subject to seizure.

They sure can. They don't usually go this route until there's a fairly significant arrearage.

This happened to a person I know. He was $1600.00 behind. They seized his bank account, his girlfriend's name was also on the account. He went to support and proved that she was the one making majority of the deposits. After a lengthy phone call from this persons lawyer, they only took half of it.

This was just a checking account we paid our bills with. I have had a checking account for years. I pay every week out of my check! I guess we can call and get her money back. Thanks for the information.
