Since 2007 I have not been able to walk more than a short distance from crippling pain in my legs the pain has spread to my hands and arms. I have applied for SSI but the process takes a long time and I do not have medical evidence since I have not been able to afford a doctor's visit.

In 2008 I became homeless and eventually could not walk even 10 feet I scooted around on my butt until someone gave me a pair of crutches. That was a horrible winter that I will never forget. At that point in time I was ready to end my life because the pain was extreme and I could not even go up or down stairs. I met a kind girl who has allowed me to spend time sitting and filling out surveys online for money and have healed greatly since I have avoided exacerbating my condition. Even 15 minutes of laborious activity puts me in extreme pain for weeks and affects my ability to walk.

I have a court summons for Child Support on November 30th. The Office of the Attorney General(OAG) takes no compassion and will tell me that I have to provide at least 250 per month or will go to jail. I don't know what to do.

Once they tell me that I have to work or go to jail I will be left with no option but to start working. After a week of working my legs will begin to fail and I will be in extreme pain but I will have no other choice but to keep working... After a month goes by I will not be able to walk and they will come to arrest me for contempt of court. They will then let me out and tell me to go back to work and the process will start again... Will they eventually send me to a doctor??

I need to find out what I need to do to keep this from happening. Even though this may help me prove my disability case it's going to be a horrible experience that I do not want to go through. I love my son and have pleaded with the mother to make it a smaller amount that I can actually afford but she says she wants to see me in jail. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

For starters, you should have immediately filed for a reduction in CS as soon as you were unable to work. Do that now.

It is unlikely that you're going to get the arrears erased. However, you may be able to avoid a contempt conviction. In order to find you in contempt, they have to show that you willfully violated the court order. If you were unable to work, you MIGHT be able to show that the violation wasn't willful - which may keep you out of jail. The problem is that you're going to have trouble proving that you were disabled. You claim that you couldn't walk or work since 2007 - yet you're just now getting around to filing for disability? That by itself is a bit questionable. In order to prove disability, you're going to need a doctor's evaluation.

Take proof that you have applied for SSI ( a document/statement/receipt from SSI of your application and application date .

You should really try to get a physical evaluation and Dr's. statement to take with you .

Since you have no recent Dr's. office visits SSA will most likely sent you to one of there own for evaluation , eventually to determine you eligibility .

Thank you for your responses! That was fast.

I did actually apply for disability back in 2007 when I first experienced my injury but was denied in 2009 from not having enough medical evidence. I've gone to a few doctors, ER's, sliding scale clinics etc. but most of them have told me that I need to see a specialist and that I need an MRI, which is very expensive.

SSI told me they would schedule me for a visit with one of their doctors and things seemed to have picked up a bit until I suddenly received the notification of the meeting with the Attorney General over the Child Support issues. There is no order established yet but the meeting in on the 30th of November. Will it be established then or should I expect more proceedings to happen before the actual order is made into a mandate? Do I have time beyond the 30th or is that going to be the day that I have to start paying?

Thank you everyone.
