claiming on taxes

What is the name of your state? missouri

if my ex is paying child support can he claim him on his tax return or can he only claim what he pays towards child support? he has only paid 1,500 out of 15,000

It depends:

What does your custody/child support order state? Does it say exactly who can claim child on taxes? If so, then the order has to be followed.

If there isn't any thing specified in the court order, then the CUSTODIAL PARENT usually is the only one who can claim child on taxes.
