Maryland-My son was lead to believe he was the father of a boy born about 5 - 6 years ago. His name is on the child's birth certificate. He recently learned that he is not the father. He and the child's mother are no longer a couple and while he is not opposed to providing for the child on his own as he has done all of the child's life, he does not want to be corralled in to the child support system. He is certain that the child's mother would use this legal tool maliciously. No paternity testing has been done, nor has any child support order been sought. Is there a way he can get his name removed from the birth record?

If no parternity testing has been done, how can you be CERTAIN he is not the father? A woman can say someone is not the father just as easily as she can say they ARE, how can you know for sure?

Nothing should be done until a paternity test has been completed. Anything up til that point is a waste of time to discuss. He could very well be the biofather.

Her family (mother, grandmother, sisters) and friends admitted she was already pregnant when they met. She confirmed it. Admittedly, the math should have been done before now but....However, I totally agree. To settle it one way or the other without room for doubt --a paternity test should be done. So, say it's done and he's not the father, then what?
