What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

My girlfriend has 3 children that she was ordered to pay child support on in Kansas. For a while she was unable to afford to make the payments and thus now has back child support owed. She has since moved to new york. While working in new york she was hurt at work and now receives workers comp of around $600 per month. She is unable to work due to the injuries she sustained in the accident. she has been paying the original child support that was ordered at 284 per month for the children.

One of the 3 children is now living with her and she is still actively paying child support for that child to her ex. Kansas recently transferred the back child support to new york for collection. She is now ordered to pay around $450 per month for the 3 children and the back child support combined. Because of this she does not have enough income to live off of with her son, let alone afford an attorney.

Are there any resources for a low income family to modify a child support judgement from another state? Would both the current and back child support need to be modified by Kansas? What would need to be done to remove her obligation for the child living with her? Could her ex be held liable for not turning in that one of the children is no longer living with him? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Child support collection agency will continue collection until there is a court order of change .

She could try to speak to legal aid , or ask a few lawyers regarding pro bono representation .

If she can not afford much perhaps she can file in Kansas to modify and request a telephonic hearing .

Once an order of modification is entered into record, she needs to obtain a certified copy from the court and provide it to CSEU.
