What is the name of your state? Texas
My nephew is 16 and his baby will be born next month. He is only being offered 12-18 hours at minimum wage and had been told the minimum child support is $160-180 a month based on a 40 hour work week. Would he be required to pay this or is this a special circumstance since he is a teenager?

He isn't required to pay anything until paternity is established. And I'm pretty sure that him being 16 doesn't mean that the baby will need less diapers. :p

Why shouldn't he have to pay it, if it is his child?

Yep...Old enought to make it, old enough to pay for it!

He's not wanting to not pay. He is being responsible, but if that is all the work he can get because of his age. Plus, he is still in high school.

Good for him that he's still in school!!....Was the girl he knocked up able to stay in school??

If he works 10 hours a week at 5 bucks and hour he should be able to meet the child support payment...;)

Or he can always ask mommy & daddy for the money.

Responsible would be using a condom.

Not having sex at all until he was mature enough to face the potential consequences would have been even MORE responsible.

Well, sadly that's a consequence of his choice to have sex.

He can work more, theres nothing that I know of that would keep him from working weekends and after school.. Hes going to have to relize that his going out days and having fun are OUT THE WINDOW. if need be tell him to work two jobs. hes going to have to learn to juggle. The child needs to be taken care of.

Some states have laws on how many hours a kid can work during a week when school is in if they are still going to school. That way they can still have time to study and do there homework and let us not forget there was another person involved in this. It wasn't just him that made this Baby. It does take TWO. It's always nice to see people on here jump all on the guys. Let us not forget there's always two sides to a story and at least he's willing to take care of his kid.

Except OP was only concerned with her nephew's part of it. Which is why we only addressed our comments to that aspect. Comprende?
