What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas
Ex lost his job 4 years ago and never bothered to get another one. He pays $10 or $25 here and there. He never pays me back for medical (supposed to be 50%) and doesn't provide health insurance.
His mom pays for his expenses I guess... I'm not sure. She mentioned to me at some point that she was trying to get him on disability for mental reasons, but obviously no one tells me anything after that and that information isn't public. She is desperate to continue to enable him (he's got a smart phone, nice car, etc but no job).
So, now that he is 16K behind, we are going to court for support and reimbursement of medical expenses.
All of a sudden, he is miraculously able to find a job (3 weeks before the court date). Imagine my surprise at the coincidence.
I have been told by the OAG office that we will first be in a room to "come up with a solution." What does that mean?
And then I was told that if we were unable to do so, we will end up in front of a judge.
In addition, I was told that he will be provided with a lawyer.
I know his mom is very smart and, again, desperate to see that he does not receive consequences of any kind.
Anyone know what this court date will look like and how I should be prepared? Or am I just there to watch the show, so to speak? I guess I'm not even sure why I am even there.
I am completely jaded by the "system" and by the way he gets away with everything, so I don't really have many expectations of 1. being paid or 2. him having any sort of reprimand. I also have very low hopes that he will keep this job after the court date. (why work when you can play playstation in your paid-for apartment all day?)
Thanks for any wisdom you can share.
