The National Center for State Courts published a statistical study in January 2013 which estimates the costs of civil litigation for a variety of "typical" civil action cases.

These cost estimates might be of interest to those who are trying to balance some of the pros and cons of pursuing a legal action, with the expense of a suit one of the factors being weighed.

There are several things that are important to note about the study: the study is from 2013 and costs tend to rise, these are estimates only, and the costs may not accurately reflect the costs you will incur in a civil action because costs depend on a variety of factors that cannot always be easily measured.
