In California. A person I know is an inmate of Corcoran State prison. He was attached in late 2011 and is suing the person who attacked him. He has/had a case in Kings County Superior Court. There was a court date set but the prison would not let him go to court, so, the case was dismissed (I assume without prejudice). What would be his next step?

Get an attorney. If the prison is not going to release him for court (which I don't see why they would), the only way to prosecute a suit is by getting representation.
