What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

I lent a necklace to my friend for safekeeping but she lost it. She said that she'd replaced it but I haven't heard from her for a while. Do I have any legal grounds to get her to pay me the $450 it costs?

Is she your friend? Do you wish for it to remain that way?

Well, yeah. But I'd also like my money..
The two goals may not be compatible. You need to keep that in mind.

If your friend won't willingly pay, you may need to pursue the matter in small claims court. Be aware that the "cost" of the necklace isn't what you would sue for. You would sue for the "value" of the necklace.
