What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

For a civil court small claims court lawsuit, if the defendant's middle name is misspelled (with an extra letter), does the lawsuit have to be refiled? Can someone point to any regulation if it has to be refiled? Thanks!

No. A simple typo will not invalidate the suit.
