Out of State-Out of Money

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I and my employer are being sued in California and I live in Illinois. My employer is going out of business and I do not have the money to pay a California lawyer or even for long distance phone calls as i am soon going to be out of a job. The lawyer they hired tried to get it dismissed and failed on the grounds the court had no jurisdiction. Now I am sitting on a mound of questions they want answers to, about to have no lawyer, and am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

What kind of suit are we talking about here? Why are you being sued?
