What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arkansas
I bought a motorcycle with my ex-boyfriend, it is in my name, we have been apart for a year 1/2 and he had the motorcycle, 2 months ago I signed the title over to him with the agreement (verbal) that if he sold it, he would give me any I had in it back. I really dont care about the money at this point.
Recently he went back into doing drugs and either sold the motorcycle for little of nothing or has pawned it to dealers for drugs? not sure, I just know that I got a call from someone claiming to have bought it for 2,000.00, its worth about 5500.00, anyway, they said that he had never registered it my his name so that I was still the owner and he needed me to sign an avidavit, which i quickly said "no way" because I have no proof that they even bought it, my x-boyfriend is no where to be found! On top of all of this whoever has it in their hands now says that they have lost the title! So, my question is, legally do I have any rights to this motorcycle, and legally, because it is still registered in my name, can I be held responsible if it is involved in any kind of accident or crime?
Thank you

Yes to both.

Here is what I suggest you do... Contact the 'buyer' and get his name, address, etc. Preferably in EMAIL. Then, contact the police and tell them that you request an escort to recover YOUR vehicle and go recover it. Take YOUR title.
Absent a title in your ex's name, he (ex) has no legal right to sell a vehicle he does not OWN. Any dispute the 'buyer' has as to money paid, etc. is between him and your ex.

Once you have the bike back in your possession.... PM me with the particulars of the bike... I might want to buy it from you. :D
