Summons Information

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tennessee I filed a complaint in circuit court for child custody. I served my summons via an out of state process server (KY) because that is where she was finally found. I was counter sued by my ex. She sent me a complaint (not a summons) via certified mail, return receipt requested. My son signed because I was not at home. Is certified mail sufficient or is she required to serve me a summons? Thank you in advance?
