Assault on a disabled individual

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
TX. I filed charges on a person that I know that broke into my home and attempted to sexually assault my disabled 21 year old daughter and stole my son's television and playstion 3. When the police came to my house and wrote the report down he called a detective and the detective first said that he can get this guy for stealing but would have to look into the attempted sexual assault since my daughter is 21. I told him that she is disabled and not able to comprehend what he did to her and that she was violated and that I will do everything to prove that he broke the law. The detective said he would have to go back to his office and it would take time to find that particular law but he would try. About 10 min. later he called and said the dept. lawyer wants to go ahead and charge this guy. Today I found the guy and called police to the house where he was at. I later get chewed out by detective saying for me to stay out of it or I'll be looking at charges for trespassing. He said no warrant has been issued for guy. How long does it take to have a warrant issued?

Your interference into the investigation could jepoardize the whole case. I know the violation of your daughter must be extremely painful, but you need to let the experts do their job. As hard as it is, you need to step back.
