What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Florida
Is it legal to place a video in home to determine if there is
possible child abuse of some kind in my house?

Web cams or "nanny" cams can be used inside a residence to capture suspected child abuse or neglect - but these cameras should not be placed in areas where one has an expectation of privacy (bathrooms, bedrooms) and these cameras should be video only (no audio). The user of a web cam should not use it surreptitiously - in other words, all should be aware that surveillance cameras are placed inside the home.

Here is a link to Florida's law, Section 934.03: http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0900-0999/0934/Sections/0934.03.html
