My ex has infiltrated my email at work and at home. I changed EVERYTHING from ISPs to usernames and passwords and he still gets in. He taunts me with emails of the contents of MY emails. I set up an email address in Yahoo that I now use for personal correspondence BUT I cannot put myself back on any of the internet dating services since he writes nasty, slanderous letters to the individuals that write me. I might as well cancel Earthlink, the latest ISP I use, and go for a freebie. Anything I can do? I expect the answer to be a NYET!

This is a violation of both California and Fereral Law and a recognized form of domestic violence. Document what he has done and what you have done to stop him first. Report it! You can get a DV protective order and report it to the FBI they are the ones who investigate internet fraud, local law enforcement may or may not, you might call your local DA office for some direction. your computer may have a spy program that is sending him info on every thing you do either look for spy progs OR consider getting a different machine .

Thank you for the advice. I already had my laptop "swept" for spyware and the like. A different machine will not solve the problem as he has also gotten into my email at work, a place that he has never been to. So far my "secret" email with Yahoo is allowing me un-monitored correspondence but I hate to live in a box this way!

First thing you need to do is tell your work that their email system has been broken into. they might even spend the resources to figure out how he did it, and stop him not to mention that is illegal. Are you sure your computer was "swept" correctly. There are programs that will not be detected by any popular methods of detection used by spyware or virus scanning program. they are called "root kits" . http://www.rootkit.com
i believe the website has software that detect some of the more nasty ones, but their people that can control your computer and go undetected even to the trained eyed. odds are they guy isn't probably that good. my guess is if he has a program from the website i stated above if you have "swept" your computer correctly. he could also be monitored your internet traffic would be a lot harder, but possible. the best thing to do on your laptop is reformat and reinstall everthing. your work computer will be the weak, unelss you can get the computer people at work to do it.

things you should do right now. is either buy an firewall or turn on the firewall in XP or windows 2000. if you want to buy one get norton's or zone alarms. just google for enabled xp firewall, and you should find instruction. if you are using broadband get a broad router. this has a firewall already inside of it. you will need to setup the router for your particular ISP. it isn't hard. you mention a laptop. if you are using wireless internet he could be entered through there and it isn't had to do. read this site:

Domestic Violence Hotline

sent me to the local police department. I need to go to the county Courthouse and file a restraining order and hope that he stops harrassing me. He sent copy of e-mails between myself and a friend to that indidvidual who copied me on it. He, the ex, somewho found my "secret" e-mail address; the one that had no link to me whatsoever. The firewall here at work is obviously not sufficient to keep him out. I will cancel my newest ISP, Earthlink, and start fresh after I get the restraining order filed. This is really very disturbing!!

Civil Injunction Prohibitng Harassment

I have spoken to a dozen people in all aspects of law enforcement from domestic vilence to the Lega Aid Society of OC and No ONE will or can tell me exactly what I need to do! I am going to take my chances and pick up the paperwork at a nearby court house and file on Monday-I think. I have been given THE PROVERBIAL run around! Last person said to get a lawyer-come on!!

After having my laptop swept for spyware and changing ISP's I still have this hacker harassing me! Sending nasty, nasty letters with porno content. He got into a Yahoo account I set up with no references to me whatsoever and sent email to my correspondences from my account!! He obviously got my pass word and all!! How do I stop him? The police blew me off, a restraining order will not work. What do I need to do? Get another laptop? Is there a permanent IP addresss on it? Change my phone number? Name? Come on-there HAS to be something I can do!!

Go to that site with the printable forms http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/forms/ and print out the DV 100 etc forms, you don't have to go to the courthouse to pick them up if your printer can print pdf, fill them out today, he can't stop you from printing out the forms. Go to the library or use someone elses computer if you have to. Call the DA's office Main Office Phone Number 714-834-3600, tell them this is escallating faster than you can even get the forms filled out and to court, you need help today, have all your evidence and what you have done to prevent him from hacking including reporting it to your employer. This is a federal crime, if the police or sheriff won't take you seriously, ask if they have an internet fraud unit they may know what to do, also since it is a ferderal crime, internet is interstate even if you are both in California, call the FBI and report it at the local field office and ask for the officer of the day, call back if you don't get a call.

If i had this problem, I'd solve it this way:
1) i'd completely erase all the data on my pc, then install a new copy of Windows
2) then (before you connect to any network) i'd install a firewall (as mentioned above Zone Alarm is pretty good) and an antivirus program.
3) then you can connect to your ISP download the latest updates for your antivirus program
4) after that check ALL the floppy discs and recordable cd discs for trojans (these programs send all the data you input from your keyboard to another email address)
after this, the problem should be solved.
Warning!!! DO NOT DO THESE THINGS:
a) use any floppy discs or cds before you install the antivirus software
b) install the operating system over your old one! you have to format your disc.

This will have some of the violations, this is improtant because local law enforcement may not be aware of these and not aware of federal usc codes and may give you the run around and give you all sorts of excuses for why they may be able to harass you this way I hope the FBI was able to help, they are backed up.

You have to call the FBI and talk to the field agent, the link (IFCC?FBI)to reporting internet crime is very slow and dependent on local law enforcement who don't know the state or federal codes covering internet crime thus have nothing to send to FBI, In one case I was told by a commander in the sheriff's department that his people have more important things to do than this, they have real crimes to investigate, even though these crimes had resulted in death and physical injury. I made a report in April and have not heard from them yet and have experienced increased harasssment, including my full name placed on the internet with false information.

I want to make it clear that I have used a number of Anti-Spyware programs that have found nothing. Please do send the instructions so I can do this. To file Injunctions Against Harassment in CA I need to let the individual I am filing against the time and location of the court. I am not prepared to go head to head with this individual. He is an orator and writer by profession and I feel inept next to him. The process necessitates my taking time off of work, which I need to run by my boss yet. It would help if he, my boss, came with me since a lot of the harassment has taken place at work but that will not happen due to time constrictions. Furthermore, the individual erased all the threatening messages from my cellular phone and has not emailed since I began researching my options. This indicates to me that he is monitoring me here at work since I don't use my laptop at home anymore. I used anti-Spyware here on my computer at work, which, again, found nothing (I have SpyBot in addition to Spyware Xterminator).

And you won't if he is as good as I am. The only programs software like these find (and are designed to find) are those that add themselves to the registry. However, it's quite simple to design a program (now how do I know this ) that runs as a service without registering itself.

If he hasn't messaged you since you began this search then forget it and move on. If he is still hacking into your computer (laptop) then reformat it.

Otherwise, you have the only suggestions available.

I wouldn't use anti-spyware prorams. They don't look for trojans. Try this program Anti Trojan Elite. You can find info about this program here http://www.remove-trojan.com/
Because spyware often comes with different software. And if a person wants to spy on you he would use a trojan.
