What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Mexico

"Don't think that Web team doesn't know who is posting and from what the source IP is, it shows on the screen for every post made on this forum along with a host of other information."

This quote was on a forum that I belong to, my question, is this an invasion of privacy and is he breaking any laws

Personally, I think that the aforementioned quote is horribly worded. lol However I agree with justalayman, there is no breach/invasion of privacy found in that statement. It's all public information. Now perhaps, if the phraseology, "...host of other information." could be expanded upon, there might be another determination made, until then my answer is No.

just for a bit of fun info:

, at one time, we had a user on this forum that was very skilled at hiding his IP as well as discovering anybody else IP and tracing it to their actual name. He got into an argument with another poster and told the guy to shut up or he would post personal info about the guy.

Well, he kept to his word. He started posting just enough info to let the guy know he did have specific info about the guy.

and this was just a user of the forum, no official affiliation with the forum yet he found this guy and all sorts of info.

You have no privacy on the internet unless you are very good at hiding.

just a word of caution to those this applies to:

if you have a camera either mounted within your monitor or a seperate unit, if you have been hacked, there is the possibility that you could be watched through your own camera and not know it.

My post was in jest but in reality, it could actually happen. Always be aware of what your computer is doing and be sure to use virus protection programs and such.

I hope that's not all you're using; PG2 is NOT a substitute for an actual firewall.
