on-lines movies

Hi, I live in HI. I see a lot of site on-line to watch moves, but I don't know what ones are illegal. How do you tell. I use hulu, and I now it is legit, but there seem to be others with a lot move shows and moves, but... I need to know if it is ok, or if they are braking the law, and if I would be braking the law watching the movie. Thanks so much for any help.
