potential cashier's check scam? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? california i am currently caught in a dilemna where someone from a foreign country has sent me a cashier's check to place ads for their company in a number of newspapers. When I found out that they'd be sending me a cashier's check, i replied to the email he sent and told him that i'd have to validate the cashier's check before i do anything with it. I also wanted more information about this company, "SEA Services" in France. When I tried to look up more information about the company, i couldn't find anything, only one website that looks like a common template, using stock images, they don't even have a logo or much information on the site either. I just wanted some validation as to whether or not this company is even real, and the person i've been emailing responds by saying that i have to do it, or he'll take me to court, and it cost even more if this happened. I looked up how binding contracts work online, and i pretty much agreed to go through with the job. here is the email i got... Quote:
I realize that once you enter an online binding contract, that it is just the same as an actual contract, but if i suspect that its a scam, am i legally obligated to proceed or if it is an actual legitimate cashier's check, am i liable for having that doubt? I don't see how i can get myself out of this, if i go through with it because im afraid of the legal action that may occur, and it turns out to be an actual scam, i lose money, if i dont do it, and it is an actual valid cashier's check, i get sued. I offered to send it back, but he would have none of it. I really would appreciate any advice... I really can't afford to lose any money. |

Losersagreed, and the last statement in their letter gives it away so badly LMFAO here it is: This simple job that you refuse to finish will make you pay thousands in court, don’t worry, we had another case few months ago and we won. **** that noise nobody in their right mind, would ever use such horrible reasoning in an effort to collect money.. WTF? I'm laughing so hard....XD |

| Sueing a person in another country is not easy and small damages will not be worth it. Accept you were almost scammed and move on. Ignore them. Don't write back, ignore.

| when/if they send the "cashiers check" report it to the appropriate authorities:\ USDOJ: To Report Unsolicited Commercial E-Mail ("Spam") actually, you should report it regardless whether the check comes or not. If it were me, this would be the beginning of a couple weeks of fun playing with the guys but that's just me. they get real excited when their mark sounds excited about the job and all the money they are going to make.
