Exclamation

public information????

What is the name of your state (Pennsylvania)?

I have an idea for a mobile software application. one of the features of the application will be that it will display the current prices of gold silver and platinum - these do not have to be up-to-the-minute prices, they can even be day old.

i have looked into services that provide these numeric values for a monthly fee, however i am trying to minimize my cost - at least until i can offset the cost of such a service with the my profit from the application. i had the idea to manually input these 3 prices into a database that the mobile app could then query. i would do this every morning. i would get these prices by looking them up on nymex.com, or yahoo, or kitco, or in the newspaper. is there anything wrong with this? are there limits to what i can do with information i obtain in a public forum? are market prices subject to copyright law? it seems simple, but i'm so confused. i think i have a great idea and i want to execute it properly/legally please help!

who would want a mobile app that displayed yesterday's news, or whenever you 'felt' like updating the 3 prices. I think it would be most interesting to see your App's Description: "...so basically I just came up with a way to get lazy people to pay me for updating the value of certain metals on a semi-regular basis, hence, 'semi-regular' will hereafter be referred to as 'whenever i feel like it..." I dunno, something tells me that's not a very effective business strategy. lol so answering your question on an opinionated level, yes, i think there's a lot wrong with this... second, the sky is the limit on what you can do with it. You're probably confused because you previously stated how simple anybody with a computer and a desire to scout market prices would be bombarded with browser options cheaper and much more accurate than any mobile app you just 'concieved'. sorry, i say 'no-go' on that...

Now a 'good' idea would be to make an app where you can check your ATM balance from your phone, without the use of a mobile browser eg. a text service agreement with a particualr financial instutition or series of ...which would never happen due to authentication/security issues.

if anybody is really "in to" precious metals, they would want a continuous update.

something like these folks provide:

and your next million dollar idea is?

thanks guys... very helpful - both of you, really. I think I'll head over to the "personal opinions" forum, then maybe I can get some free legal advice...

fine. I was trying to be nice when providing that you are obviously oblivious to anything outside your closed mind.

your suggestion, as I have shown, is already on the market.

as well, you belief that anybody would care, let alone pay, for outdated information is simply silly.

and yet, you feel it is appropriate to insult those that responded.

btw; did you hear the Hindenburg Zeppelin crashed? I am sure that news will result in a major shake up in the air travel world and businesses. Maybe you can get in early on the next wave of air travel because of that news.
