SPAM laws

What are the laws regarding SPAM? On one of the spam e-mails I've received it made mention that it's not spam since it's giving a means for you to be removed from their list. After reading that, I started hitting the "unsubscribe" button and/or hit "reply" with "remove" in the subject line. I don't think I've had any successes yet, they keep coming back as "undeliverable". So if anyone can point me in the right direction on ANY national or ANY state laws regarding spam, it would be greatly appreciated.
