Angry president of condo association

Location:Connecticut

Hi, my girlfriend had a meeting with the condo board making her aware that from now on if anyone complained about "excessive noise" coming from her condo she would be fined $25 each day of a complaint.

She is a single mother of two kids and really does her best to keep them quiet, for the most part they are.

Anyways, a few weeks later she received a notice stating that there were complaints on Jan 28th and 29th and she has 30 days to pay the $50 fine.

The troubling thing about this is the fact that we were not given any specifics. Not who complained, not what time of day, not what they heard- just 'you violated, pay this fine.'"

I was there all day both days and haven't witnessed anything close to what was described as "excessive noise".

We both fear this is just pure harassment as the president is an older gentleman and makes it clear he doesn't enjoy children at the condo village. He told my girlfriend at one of the meetings "Why did you move here? You should move to a house, this is no place for kids!"

He clearly envisions the place as more of a retirement community than where people with children reside.

The worst part is he does have a history of unethical tactics. There was an incident where he stated in a letter that her back porch had mold and it needed to be repaired or she would be fined $25 every day it wasn't. When my girlfriend inquired to another member of the board about that letter, she was told the her and the rest of the board knew nothing about it.

Either way it's becoming clear that she's being pushed out, can someone suggest what to do?

Hi, There shold be some "Condo Docs" - legal documents that establish the rights and responsibilities of all parties - unit owners, association, Board members, etc. Get a copy and read it thoroughly. You should have gotten a copy when you bought your condo. If not, try the Association Secretary - ask for a copy. THat's a good place to start.
