Can I sue my neighbor above me with squeaky flloors?

I learned the hard way about how poorly the building/condo I live in is constructed. When I moved into my condo the unit above me was vacant at the time. That didn't last long though. When my new neighbor moved in I was greeted by the sound of his floors squeaking plus a low pitched booming sound too. I talked to him about this issue and offered to fix his floors with me flipping the bill for repair. He said "no" to my offer and that leaves me with either soundproofing my place, moving or possibly fixing his floors but he won't agree to that.

The reason I don't move is because I tried that already and couldn't find a place around here that offers this much room and space for the dollar. I suppose the poor construction here is why I wound up with a good price on this place. Thus from everything I've seen it would most probably cost less $$$ to fix this noise problem. Personally I wish I could just take him to court and have he himself pay for the repair that I so generously offered to pay for myself.

Of course you can. If you want to be laughed out of court.

Sound proof your condo and get on with your life.

I'm waiting for my latest quote when it comes to that. I've already received quotes ranging from $2,000 to $60,000. Trying to ditch this noise isn't as easy as it seems. I've already had many tell me, sticking insulation between the ceiling and floor is worthless Either way my neighbor is a schmuck not to fix his own floor when I offered to pay for it. All the more reason to sue the SOB!!!!!!!!!!!

This was on "This old House" a couple of months ago. Seemed to work there. Course, you do need access to the neighbor's house. otherwise you will have to remove your ceiling to get at the joists and use this system

Or keep the radio on, loud.

Thanks, I will discuss using this product with my neighbor. I just hope he's open to it. He better be!
