Death of a condo owner-how condo board know title is transferred?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

About six years a unit owner died and a long time companion who was living with the owner at the time of death wrote a letter to the condo board indicating that s/he was the beneficiary. The estate is still in probate and the attorney has been changed at least once.

How does the association learn when title is transferred and who is the beneficiary?
