Help with condo commandos!

What is the name of your state? NH

I rent a unit in a 55+ building, I am not over 55 and I have a 14 year old child. I believe I am the only renter in the building, and I have the only child. Since moving in about 2 years ago, there were a couple incidents with my daughter and her friends regarding noise, giving friends the code that allows us to access the building, and one time a friend left a bicycle near the front door. Each time the matter was discussed, we apologized to the appropriate people and life went on...so I thought.

They are now making false accusations of noise disturbance and accusing us of giving out the code again - to the point where my landlord has started receiving fines. All these accusations are false and the "fine notices" do not include any back-up (dates, times). My question is how can these people get away with this? There is a condo board comprised of residents, which I have since named the "condo commandos", and they obviously want me out of that building.

Is there anything I can do to stop the harassment?

Thank you!

Since you can't control your daughter's behavior, I suggest you move...

Do you understand that condo boards /HOAs are not governmental agencys so they can basically do what ever they want with in the rules ( it doesnt matter if the rules are very vague or so well written you would swear the writer was anal ) Condo boards and HOAs do the things they do because of the rules SO unless those rules violate a local law there is nothing you can do about what claims they make to your LL , IF your LL evicts based on noise complaints or solid evidence of rules being broken that are in your lease they are going to have to have proof. Expect that your LL will not renew your lease OR even might offer you money to leave early to stop the fines.

There are some things you can do, but first you need to drop the name calling. It serves so real purpose other than to encourage the thinking that you are being treated unfairly - and you're probably not. Unfortunately you and your daughter got off on the wrong foot by creating security, safety and noise issues. These may have continued by your daughter unbeknown to you.

The best thing for you to do is act professionally buy writing a letter to your LL telling him/her that the Board is mistaken and that you have not shared the code with others and are unaware of any noise complaints. Use the words "May I respectfully request that the Board provide you [the LL] with the dates and nature of any noise disturbances so that I can address them. Also, may I please know with whom the code has been shared as my daughter has assured me she has given it to no one."

Good luck with this.
