late condo fee fines

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Minnesota

our association accessed us fines on a 400 dollar association fees of 250.00 late fees per violation over a thousand dollars in total. I have heard this is not only excessive but illegal.

Who told you that that was illegal? Look in your bylaws and state statutes.
