Non-US citizens property taxesWhat is the name of your state? New York, NY Hi. Is there such thing as an extra tax for non-US citizens when buying a co-op or condo in NYC? I am canadian but have a temporary visa to work here. I am interested in buying a coop or condo but am wondering if there are extra tax repurcussions for me. Trying to figure out if in the long run it will be more expensive to buy vs rent. Thanks, gtrekker2003 |

| You clearly haven't seen the rental prices in Manhattan lately :P OP, no extra taxes per se, although a co-op Board could conceivably have figured out a way to charge non-citizens more than citizens (which technically, is illegal, so I wouldn't worry too much about it). That said, beware of the NYC income taxes, which, coupled with the state's hand in your pocket, equal the highest tax burden of any city in the US. ![]()
