What is the name of your state? California

I live in a new HOA with single family homes. Our home is at the end of a cul-de-sac which has an open field at the end(no homes). We have placed a portable basketball hoop in the street at the end of the cul-de-sac. The streets in the development are not maintained by the HOA but by the city.

The HOA R&R's state that basketball hoops must be stored in the garage or behind the fence at night.

Question: does the HOA have any jurisdiction over basketball hoop in the street?

that is what the HOA does. They enforce their guidelines established within the association.. Move the hoop or get ready to have a letter from an attorney that you will have to pay for telling you to move it....

That's deep. What level of experience do you have with this subject?
If when they are mowing lawns together there can be the " Swinging elbows" if they get too close to their own wives and the teammate helps there can be the " Illegal Assist in Scoring "

But then there is always... we shudder

Keeping Track of Personal and Team Fouls

which means.... there is something going on up here and if you or they or doing it ... it still smells foul.

So then anyone who lives in your neighborhood must store their basketball hoops in the garage or behind a fence at night, it really doesn't matter that the city maintains/owns the street you own your property and they (HOA) have the right to tell you what to do on it, I can assure you that they have every right to tell you to remove this at night just as the CC&R's state that you must. This is perhaps the stupidest question yet. IMHO

You answered your own question

"The HOA R&R's state that basketball hoops must be stored in the garage or behind the fence at night." PERIOD

my guess is it's either being stored behind the fence or in the garage in the evening; or they had to sell it to pay the HOA fines for being so stupid. JMO
