What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

I am interested in renting out a unit I own in a self managed building. Bylaws state that 2 units are to be rented out at any one given time and a lease agreement needs to be send to the board. We currently have 2 units being rented and I was on the board at the time and know they didn't provide proper documentation.

What can they do to me if I rent my unit out anyway? For the last 5 years I have lived there, they have failed to follow bylaws regarding providing financial information, open board meetings, and elections.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Avoid complications and discuss your intentions with the board first and ask for a waiver. Just because they haven't enforced certain by-laws in the past doesn't mean they will not in the future.
