Water problems

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NH

We live in a cooperative mobile home park, where our water is included in our lot fee. Our lot fee is paid, but the park has cut off water to our home due to a water leak. Yes, it's a fairly major leak, it was discovered yesterday (sunday) and they've cut off all water to our home until it's repaired. The earliest I can get a plumber here is tomorrow, and with two small children and two disabled adults we require a source of running water in our home.

Do we have any recourse here? I have already notified the property management agency and board of directors that since we are not receiving a service we pay for, we will be withholding a portion of the next month's lot fees, and was promptly cussed at by the park's maintenance person, who told me to take my "*%&$^#* issues elsewhere."

talk to neighbors on each side of you , if one of them will permit you to connect a hose to the outside hose bib then as long as you shut off the main valve where the water connects to the house (even if it is under the house shut it off so there is no leak between the house and the street) go to a hardware store and buy a double female hose connector and connect the other end to your homes outside hose bib , with a faucet open in your home. THEN turn on your outside faucet and the neighbors and set the faucet in your home down to a steady streamer of water. Yes its wasteful, BUT as long as you leave one faucet in your home on a very thin line of water running 24/7 the hose will not freeze. This will give you water while your waiting for park to get the main line repaired. AGAIN make sure that the water is shut off at your main , its gonna be either under your home or under a sink or in your hot water heater area. Even if you had to offer a small amount to the park for the extra water its worth it and it will give you water while they arrange and complete repairs. ( when I owner occupied one unit and rented the rest in a 4 plex my water main failed in january / feb due to age- installed in 1910, My neighbor to the east was kind to let me hook on to her home the way I described , I had her tell me what her current bill was and I paid her the difference over and above , I was hooked on to her home for almost 3 weeks and it only made her water sewer charges go up 25.00 or so) but the point of this is even if your water is included , this would be a simple way to get you water and allow them the time they need to fix it. IF you cannot do this or they stop you then use the links above and speak to a real estate atty about your options.

Well, persuant to state law, their disconnection of our water is illegal unless repairs are actually in progress. And the only neighbor close enough to our home to ask, is, unfortunately, the director of the board, who approved our water being cut off.

FarmerJ has given you excellent advice. Years ago my neighbor had a similar situation, and they connected to my house till their water main got repaired. You can use a washer connection hose, as the female to female connector.....connected to as many garden hoses as you need to reach the difference. You could have water in 20 minutes.

The director shut off your water because the main was leaking, not because of spite. I can't imagine any reason why he wouldn't be willing to do this connection for you. Work out whatever financial arrangements are needed, from nothing to pay his whole water bill for the month if need be. Paying above and beyond whatever his normal water bill is, is very fair. It's better than you going out and buying a bunch of bottled water.

Things break, and accidents happen. Work together to resolve this.

Good luck.
