Completed my Basement, and pending minor work. Need to know Waiver of Lean procedurs

Hi, I am getting my basement completed by a General contractor. I have some work remaining on the contract, I am willing to pay him in full except that he has been threatening me for no reason that he will put a lien on my property. I have communicated to him that once he completes the work which he acknowledges I will pay him in full. My question is, I want to get Lien release /waivers from this general contractor and all his sub-contractors. What kind of document should I expect?
If he does not give the releases from all the sub-contractors, should I still pay him in full and can the sub-contractor put a lien on my property?

Also, how can I protect myself by making the final payment, and I get the lien waivers at the same time, how do I make sure that the documents are correct. Any help is greatly appreciated.
