What is the name of your state? TN

We elected to fired our builder after 6 months because he had failed to do any work. We mutually agreed on items to be paid (i.e. plans, permits, etc) by us in order to get out of the contract. He provided us with a signed statement voiding our contract.

He has now come back stating he found another invoice from his landscape company in the amount of $1600 that we needed to pay. We have been ignoring him, but he is now threatening to put a lien on our property. Can he do this? Should we just pay the money and be done with him? It really isn't that much, but I don't want to pay it on principle because he was so terrible and has cost us quite a bit of money already.

Thanks,
Vicky

the difference between filing liens and perfecting liens

just about anyone can file a lien, Perfecting a lien and getting a judgement are two entirely different things. bogus liens can be discharged by the court.
