Tricky Lien?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon

The house is in oregon but I'm not at the moment. I bought a house with an ex and rather than having my name on things at the time I put money into renovations like buying the wood flooring. I have receipts of these purchases and a verbal agreement that I'll get paid back but I think I should really do something more like get a lien so that I don't just have a verbal agreement.

Any idea how or what to do?

**A: start by hiring a real estate attorney.

Hiring an attorney for this matter is cost prohibitive as the amount is under 6k and an attorney would eat up immediate out of pocket that I do not have.

I suspect that you are talking only about $500. Important not only is the amount in contention now but what happens in the future.

Is this Ex as in EX-wife? How was this handled in the divorce settlement?

This is as in ex long term boyfriend. We never married. Thus there is no divorce. What I do have is all the receipts of the materials purchased and all of these were purchased using my accounts. And at this time all I have is a verbal agreement with him.

I'm curious why you would think I would be talking about something so little as $500 when I said the amount was under 6k. By that I was meaning that it's just under 6k.

Though I do feel it's enough money that I'd like to be sure I get it back I also just don't have any kind of money in hand now to put in place an attorney that will likely cost me at the very least several hundred dollars.

So it feels like a catch 22. In order to insure I get my money people suggest I get legal help which I can't pay for with my current lack of money.

I'm not expecting my money now. I'm just trying to ensure he holds up to his part of the verbal agreement.

How much do you think legal would cost me for a process like this? What I had in mind was a lien of some sort to agree on a time line in which the debt is owed.
