After Discharge...What is the name of your state? WA My bk was discharged last month, I have three court fines that were not discharged in the bankruptcy, all were in collections with the same company before I filed. Now, the have been reassigned to the collection company and I am going to be paying them off, but when I received a statement from them, (this is the first one that I have received post bk) It listed the amounts from the court, and then it added on about $400.00 in fees, which coincidentally is the exact amount of the interest that had accrued before I filed bankruptcy. When I called the company they stated that the fees were not interest but a collection fee and they were perfectly within there rights to charge it...My question is is this correct, or do I need to do some further work here? |

| They are only entitled to that 'collection fee' if the original agreement or contract, or in this case, court order, SAYS they are entitled to collect such fees. If there is no such provision for a 'collection fee' then they cannot request it. So, you need to check any documents you may have or check with the court that you owe the fines to.
