attorney ethics questionWhat is the name of your state? Washington Hi. We filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy 2 years ago. Now I find out that our attorney's assistant; who completed all of the paperwork, and happened to be my cousin's ex-wife; shared the details of our bankruptcy with our family. I have no doubt that this was unethical but, is it also illegal? Thanks for any input. niwayan julie |

| Yes, its likely unethical. However, bankruptcies are a matter of public record. Anyone could get access to your case and get ALL the details.

| Actually, most of the details of your bankruptcy are contained in a public file at the bankruptcy court. Certain aspects are available on line through a web service known as PACER. It sounds like your real complaint is that the woman revealed the fact that you had filed a petition. Such disclosure would be required to be given to your creditors, including any relatives that may have been creditors. |
