bankruptcy

My sister has filed for Bankruptcy in WISCONSIN. Their marriage is nearly over. I really have no real hope of getting this money but wish to protect my interests should they win the lottery or inherit a large sum of money.
The amount I have lent them is not in dispute. My parents have lent them money as well. Neither of us have any signed documents that would establish the debt. We could attempt to go back and get copies of cashed checks that were written to her , but there were times when we gave cash and there were also times when the money had to be funneled through a third party because she was unable to cash checks in the city she lies in... ( yep she is really in a mess)
I realize that I have to file a proof of caim. This form calls for documentation. Documentation will be difficult to get and expensive.
My question is... what steps are required on my part to ensure my claim is validated and if I am required to go to the expense can I charge it to them.

This is merely a suggestion and not an answer to your question. I think it is time to cut your losses. Don't you think it is bizarre that despite your sister's financial straits she would still be buying lottery tickets? Other than your already "taken' parents, who in his right mind would leave her an inheritance?

If you are listed as a creditor in your sister's bankruptcy petition and your debt is not secured, then you can just plan on not seeing that money because that debt will be discharged in the BK.

Now, if she has NOT listed you as a creditor, then don't breathe a word about the loan until AFTER she gets her discharge.

Then you can go after her for it.
