Bankruptcy for brother in Prison- only option?

What is the name of your state? California
My brother was recently sentenced to 5 years in State Prison. We are considering filing for bankruptcy. He has a $6,000 bank loan and a $5,000 debt from his apartment rental company (who are charging him for rental of his unit until they were able to rent it ). He has a car he is still making payments on and hopes to keep that. If we file for bankruptcy can he keep the car if I make payments for him? Is there any other option here?

Is he already incarcerated ???
If so, how is he going to get to the 341 meeting of creditors ?? That is the ONE thing he MUST be present for and if he's not, the case gets dismissed !
