Can I get a Job?

Hello
I am in Massachusetts and just filed chapter7, but have not had my 341 hearing yet...not for two more weeks.
My Husband has a job and we are just about making our present bills that we are still required to pay.
We do not have enough money for food and I was wondering if I can get a Job or sell things on e-bay to keep us going till all this is over. My Lawyer said that it will take till october to get dismissed.
I have some small things not worth much, that I would like to sell on and I am afraid that this will cause us to not get the Bankruptcy. I could also get a Job, but again I am afraid that this would cause a problem also.
Any info welcome!!

October ?? If your 341 is in 2 weeks and all goes well, then you should have your discharge 60 days later, that would mean early September at the latest.

Have you asked your lawyer these questions ? He/she should be able to give you a reasonable answer.

Thanks for your reply!
Like all Lawyers this time of year...he is on vacation.
I thought it would be 60 days also, but he said to expect 8 to 10 weeks.
The reason I posted the Job question is that money is really tight and I need to get some kind of income asap.
Do you have any idea what exactly happens after the hearing....do they now investigate?

You probably shouldn't sell things, but I can't imagine there being a problem with getting a job to pay for food.

The 60 days after the 341 is pretty standard unless there's a problem, so it doesn't matter if your lawyer is on vacation or not !

During that 60 days, all that period is for is to give creditors the opportunity to object to your filing, if none do, you get your discharge. No investigations happen, unless a creditor objects because of suspected fraud. Basically, you just wait it out for 60 days.
