can they do this

my estranged husband died and owed a credit card company money. at one time (not known to me) i was set up as as authorized user. my husband wrote the credit card company and advised i was not authorized nor had i ever used his card. only one card was issued. i was removed as an authorized user on credit reports at that time. now the company has listed the charge off against my credit report? how can they reinstate something they agreed to? the bill was not paid because there was no money left.11/13/00
we lived in SC at the time of his death but different addresses.
