| chapter 7 What is the name of your state? NY
At the time of my chapter 7 (1997), I was told and received the court document stating that my debts were discharged, with the exception of my student loan. My lawyer understood that I had a personal injury lawsuit against the City of New York that I had initiated 2 years earlier. A trustee was appointed (a man, till this day, that I've never met). Now, today, 10 years later I finally get this case to court (previous attorney's efficiency), and I am told that the trustee still holds the $45,000 worth of debt, and that I should "take what little money from the City of NY that I could get and run." I thought the trustee held the NYS student loan folks' interest in collection.
I feel like double jeopardy has attacked me. I sought relief, got it, and I am still being penalized for the debt I incurred. If my debts were discharged, then why are the credit card and department store credit cards, and charge cards persons still entitled to money?
