| In New Jersey: It is my understanding a homeowner/debtor filing a chapter 7 may receive a homestead exemption in the amount of $16,150 ($16,150 each party for couples) to make a fresh start and is the first to be paid from proceeds of sale of the home -- what do you know about this? Is the debtor the first to be paid, or is exemption contingent upon monies available after secured debts are paid. Thank you. |
