I am contemplating filing bankruptcy because of unmanageable credit card debt.

Currently I am essentially being supported by my partner, and have we joint accounts. The money is all my partner's, the joint account is only for emergency use.

Should we take my name off the accounts before starting to file?

If so, is there a certain amount of time that should lapse
between changing the account status and starting filing? I don't want to do anything that would raise any question of fraud. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Don't close the account until you have spoked with a bk attorney.
It may well be unneccessary. Depending on the amount involved, it may be exempt anyway.
Most bk lawyers give free or lowcost initial consultations. Talk with a few and get all of your options explained.
