I co-signed for someone back in 1989 for 3,000. This person filed bankruptcy in 1993 and I filed a chapter 13 in 1992. Here is the question: In 1993 this company never contacted me nor have they to this day. I pulled up my credit report in 1998 and did not see anything in regards to this company. Now I pull up my credit report again a week ago and I see a company (that I have no idea who it is) reporting me as duragatory. Curious to who this was I contacted them. They said let me look... they pulled up my file and said oh yes you co-signed for a loan in 1989 and you are responsible. I told them they never contacted me and how can they hold me accountable 11 years later? And I am the one that contacted them. They have closed this account and wrote it off as a bad debt. Can they legally after 7 years that my friend filed bankruptcy hold me accountable? ALso, can they still continue to report it on my credit report when I am trying to resolve. I don't thinkafter 7 years and they never tried to contact me that they can hold me to it. Is there a statue of limitations?? Please Help... |
