I recently recieved a phone call from a company called Credit trust. They said I owed them money on a debt that was 16 years old. Can this be for real?? This is a credit card debt accured by an ex-husband that had been written off 14 years ago.

It sounds to me as if money had been owed, the statute of limitations has long since expired should they sue you.

The fact that internally the bank had "written it off" is not relevant as it does not change your obligation -- just the bank's internal accounting.

But these SOBs buy up uncolectable accounts and pay 10 cents on the dollar from what they can bully people to pay to avaoid hassles.
